How To Facilitate Connection

Society often foster's disconnection -- so how do you learn, how do you teach to a community pre-disposed to be fearful of movement?

As a teacher of movement, it is not just about a safe space. It's about building trust. They trust that I have their back and that they've been prepared for that next step in their practice. It takes a long time to develop, and it's worth all of the time and effort for the magical moment when they say, with a smile on their face, "I didn't think I could do that."

Proud teaching moments come when we empower our clients. But they also come when we empower ourselves. When we are happy teachers, we grow. Can you imagine the joy when those two align?

A client of mine has been going through some stuff -- and I am honored every single time she shows up for our sessions. She centered her mind. She internally shows up for herself, and sometimes that means there are a few tears. She's not alone. We are connected in the moment. This is especially true when, as teachers, we begin to introduce more advanced work. There isn't any room for the to-list, or the stress of life -- only the task at hand. My mentors allow space for me to get to that zone, and I can only hope that my clients feel the same.

And this is relevant now more than ever! With clients working from home, attempting to “do it all” and also asking them to now workout online… it can be overwhelming. Go back to your relationships and the trust that you have built with your community — and serve them first.
