5 Music Playlists to Transform Your Pilates Practice

Music is an essential part of my movement practice

My first passion was music. It might still be.

I come from a family of musicians so it wasn't a surprise to my folks that I wanted to pursue my undergrad in music recording. In fact, my first "real biz" was a recording studio. As kids my brother and I were my mom's roadie and as teenagers his band toured and I began helping them record albums. Some people may look at the lead singer and think they're the key player in a band, but that's the farthest from the truth for me. It's always been whoever's driven the beat, the rhythm. The bass guitarist, the drummer, the keys... each musician plays a role in setting the mood.

We all have a magical playlist that transports us to a happy place. Some to sadness. Music is a way to transport to another plane and just FEEL. It's always been a healing modality for me.

So I challenge you →

When was the last time you really taught to music? When was the last time you let the rhythm flow over you instead of just counting pulses?

My best work comes when I find that magical playlist and just let my body sync. My fingers type across the keys to the beat. My body no longer static in my chair. My mind less anxious and holding to "perfection."

Give these playlists a try and let me know how you felt after by tagging me @GumptionCollective on IG.
